POETRY IN THE ARCHIVES

The Globe Road Poetry Festival took place from 13th-15th November 2015 on and around the Queen Mary Mile End Campus.

Published:
Reprint of a block of poetry text from a poem called a new kind of sonnet

This three-day festival celebrates the diversity of poetic traditions both locally and globally. A variety of free performances, workshops, poetry slams and exhibitions will take place exploring this year’s theme of translation and technology.

Here at Queen Mary archives we hold a diverse range of collections on poetry. Among our collections are the poems of the first mistress of Westfield College, Constance Maynard (1849-1935), and poet and Liberal Party politician Lucy Masterman (1884-1977).

Also held in the archives are the notes and lecture papers of both Professor Henry Cecil Kennedy Wyld(1870-1945) and Jacob Isaacs (1896-1973) relating to the teaching of poetry at Westfield College and Queen Mary.

An upcoming exhibition ‘Arts in the Archives: Publications, Poetry and Performance’ on the second floor of Mile End Library, will give an insight into the poetic works of both students and academics. Please do come along when it opens at the end of November.

If you would like to see any of the archival holdings on poetry or find out more about the upcoming exhibition please contact us at archives@qmul.ac.uk.
