-
How do I top-up my print credit?
Print credit is topped up using your QM iPay account, which is also used for fines payment, wireless printing and photocopying.
Your QM iPay account can be credited in two different ways:
- Visiting the touch-screen kiosks on the ground floor of each library
- Online using the QM iPay Webcentre
To use the touch-screen kiosks in the Library, touch your ID card to the kiosk pad. The screen will display your name and your current balance. As coins or notes are inserted the balance updates. Once you have inserted the desired value you should select the 'finish' button on the touch screen.

What do I need to access the PCs in the Library?
IT Services provide workstation PCs and printers in all Library services buildings.
To access these services you will need a student services account:
- Undergraduates and Taught Postgraduates. You should be given your username during the registration process. If not, visit IT Services Help Desk, Room W209, Queens Building, Mile End.
- Research Postgraduates and Staff. Contact Queen Mary IT Liaison on ext 5939 or visit the IT Services Help Desk, Room W209, Queens Building, Mile End, to register for the service.
- NHS Staff. Ask Medical Library helpdesk staff for registration form. Activation of accounts can take up to 48 hours after completion of the form.
PCs are available until 15 minutes before closure and Library Staff are on-hand to offer assistance.
-
How do I photocopy?
You can photocopy at any of the Library MFDs (Multi-function Devices), which can also be used for printing and scanning.
Before using the MFDs you must top-up your Library account at one of the ground floor kiosks. Both the kiosks and the MFDs simply require you to touch your ID card to the reader.
On touching your ID card to the kiosk pad, the screen will display your name and your current balance. As coins or notes are inserted the balance updates. Once you have inserted the desired value you should select the 'finish' button on the touch screen.
Once credit has been added to your account, simply touch your ID card to the reader on the front of the MFD and you will be able to start copying. Your balance is displayed at the bottom left of the touchscreen at all times and decreases as each copy is made.

SFX
-
Why does SFX sometimes give more than one full text link?
Electronic journal titles are often available via more than one source, and all subscribed sources will be listed. The date ranges of available content may vary between different sources.
-
Why doesn't SFX provide a link to the full text?
No full text links will appear if Queen Mary does not subscribe to the e-journal title, or, in the case of an SFX menu for a specific article, if Queen Mary does not subscribe to the year / volume in which the article appears.
If no full text is available online, use the service options to locate a print copy in a Queen Mary library, or via another library using Copac, a union library catalogue incorporating the holdings of many major UK and Irish academic and national libraries.
-
Why doesn't anything happen when I click on the SFX link?
Are you using a browser which disables pop-ups? This will prevent SFX from functioning.
-
I clicked on a full text link but only got the journal's homepage. Why?
Some e-journal providers do not allow article level linking via SFX, and only allow linking to either the table of contents or homepage.
-
Why doesn’t SFX recommend other articles every time?
It only works if you are looking for a journal article and as SFX needs time to build up recommendations it is less likely to suggest other readings for articles which have only recently been published.
-
Why does SFX only download the first author for some articles?
Some sources, such as Web of Science, only send SFX the first author even if there is more than one. You should always check the results of the download to ensure the bibliographic record is complete.
-
How do I report problems with SFX?
You can report problems and provide feedback via the ‘Problems? Comments?’ SFX menu link. Alternatively, contact us to report any problems accessing e-journals or using SFX.
