Starting out in research

Starting out your career in research?

When you are new to doing research it can be difficult to know where to start. For undergraduates the Mind the Gap page has some useful hints and tips on how to carry out research.

The Digital Research Tools web site is also a good resource for finding the most appropriate tools and resources for your research.

How can we can help?

Your Academic Liaison Librarian will often be able to help you with enquiries about research resources in your subject area.

Current Awareness Services

The Library creates lists of new Library books (bought in the last 4-5 weeks). Many publishers now offer free alerting services that will send you the contents pages of new journal issues by e-mail as soon as they are available.

You can also set up alerts on Zetoc, a table of contents service from the British Library. Zetoc alerts can be set up for individual journals or for searches by keyword or author. Access to Zetoc is via Institutional Login.
