Authors wishing to publish via the gold open access route, enabling their research to be made open access immediately upon publication, are required to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC). The cost of the APC varies from publisher to publisher and in some cases may also include other publication costs as well as the open access fee. Queen Mary University of London has been awarded grants from a number of research funders to pay the open access fee.
Currently, these are:
- Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
- Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
- British Heart Foundation
- Cancer Research UK
- Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
- Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)
- Medical Research Council (MRC)
- Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
- Parkinson's UK
- Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)
- Versus Arthritis
- Wellcome Trust
