QMUL staff and students have reference access to many other libraries at other University of London institutions. Each library will have its own opening hours and terms of access so please check with the library you intend to visit before travelling. See the full list of UoL member institutions here

Senate House Library

Senate House is one of the UK's largest academic libraries for arts, humanities and social sciences and includes many collections of national and international importance.

Information on its subject collection is available here.

All QMUL staff and students are entitled to free membership to Senate House, which will enable them to borrow books and access their electronic resources.

To join Senate House Library you will need to pre-register online and then go to the SHUL Membership Desk to complete the application process. Please make sure to have your QMUL ID card with you when you visit the Library.

The British Library

The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom and one of the world’s largest libraries. Its collection includes more than 150 million items in over 400 languages making it an excellent resource to support all levels of learning and research.

All QMUL students and staff with a valid research need are welcome to visit and join the British Library.

For access to most items in the collection you will first need to register for a Reader’s Pass online before visiting the Reading Rooms. You will be expected to provide proof of identity and a list of specific resources you wish to view.

Most physical items are not on open access and must be ordered to view them. If you pre-register online for your Reader Pass you can save time by ordering items in advance of your first visit. Search the Library Catalogue here.

Please be aware that at certain times of the year, especially around the Easter period and during the summer term, due to the large volume of requests to use its facilities the British Library reserves the right to restrict admission to those users who need to consult material only available there. Therefore, at these times you may be turned away if you simply wish to use the Library as study space.
