Access and membership
NHS staff from Barts Health Trust are entitled to library membership. Queen Mary has three libraries; the Whitechapel library, the West Smithfield library, and the Mile End library, which is a large multi-disciplinary library, with limited medical related content.
Register on-line here. On your first visit we will attach a library barcode to your trust card. This will then double as your library card, allowing you to gain access to the library and borrow items at Whitechapel and West Smithfield libraries.
NHS staff can borrow a total of 6 books at one time from Whitechapel or West Smithfield libraries. You can borrow and return at the self service kiosks, using your library card and PIN. If you did not select a PIN when registering, you can find it here.
All items can be renewed an unlimited amount of times, unless another user requests it. You can renew your loans with the Self Service option on the library web page, or you can use the QMUL App. You will need your library card and PIN. If books become overdue fines will be added to your account, Fines amounting to £12 will result in your account being blocked. Fines can be paid at the top-up machines in the library.
You can browse our print and online collections via the library catalogue.
NHS members can access Queen Mary e-resources when in the Whitechapel and West Smithfield libraries. We cannot provide off campus access to our e-resources.
NHS members are entitled to an NHS Athens account which allows you to access NHS e-resources online from any network. You can self-register for an account on Evidence Search. You will need your NHS email address.
